PMP Certification Requirements



Step 1: Take our 35 hour PMP certification class.

    ... take an in-person classroom class. If you require the hours for other certifications, the class gives you 35 PDUs and 35 SEUs.


    Step 2: Apply for PMP test at pmi.org.

    Prerequisites: 35 hour PMP certification class.

    Work experience requirement, if you hold a bachelor's degree: 3 years of project management work experience.

    Work experience requirement, if you hold a high school degree: 5 years of project management work experience.

    Work experience requirement, if you hold a bachelor's degree in project management from a GAC accredited program: 2 years of project management work experience.

    Work experience requirement:
    Your project management work experience has to have occurred in the last 8 years.
    Your job title does not need to have been ‘project manager’.

    Pay PMP exam test fee at pmi.org,
    $ 405 for PMI members (PMI membership fee is $ 139),
    $ 555 for non-members.

    Receive e-mail from pmi.org with authorization to schedule PMP exam at pearsonvue.com. The authorization is valid for 1 year.


    Step 3: Schedule PMP test at pearsonvue.com.

    Step 4: Take the PMP test.

    Take online test at home or office, or ...

    ... take test at PearsonVue test center. 180 questions, 3 hours and 50 minutes, computer-based.


    Step 5: Become a member of PMI.

    Market yourself more effectively by letting others know about your PMP.
    Join local PMI chapters.
    Participate in PMI Meetup groups.


    Step 6: Maintain PMP certification.

    Collect 60 PDUs every 3 years, or 20 PDUs per year.

    After 3 years, pay PMP renewal fee at pmi.org,
    $ 60 for PMI members (PMI membership fee is $ 139),
    $ 150 for non-members.

      Prerequisites: Certification class, and high school degree or bachelor's degree.

      No work experience requirement.

      PMI® reviews your application within 1 to 5 days.

      Receive e-mail from pmi.org with request to pay CAPM exam test fee.

      Pay CAPM exam test fee at pmi.org,
      $ 225 for PMI members (PMI membership fee is $ 139),
      $ 300 for non-members.

      Receive e-mail from pmi.org with authorization to schedule CAPM exam at pearsonvue.com. The authorization is valid for 1 year.

      Step 6: Obtain PMP certification.

      Obtain PMP certification as soon as you meet the work experience requirement.
